Mary Carpenter is a writer living in the Washington DC house where her two sons grew up alongside many small animals: a dog and many cats plus a hedgehog, a chinchilla, guinea pigs, hamsters and mice.

​

Mary works as a medical journalist and currently writes the "Well-Being" column for rmylittlebird.com.  She leads creative writing workshops in the Washington DC area and elsewhere.


She has written three books for readers ages 8 and up:

About a woman diagnosed with autism who became successful as a designer of humane facilities for livestock,
especially cows, who became an author and lecturer to help families coping with autism and teach people what it means to be a visual thinker.
